Call it a scene out of a music video if you like, but on set, everyone was laughing the whole time. About as far from a standard wedding photo as you can get, this shoot captured both the music that brought them together and the silly, everyday side of their relationship at once. Afternoon: Proposing All Over Again on Junshin Shopping Street

Out through the curtain, and on to the shopping street next. Koenji Junshin Shopping Street — the name alone says it all.

After running toward the camera under the arcade, the groom popped open a ring box for a mock-proposal shot. He looked more embarrassed than he had for the real thing. On Pal Shopping Street, they bought drinks and walked while sipping them. A photo of the bride pinning the groom against a pillar in a reverse “wall-slam” moment, with him laughing helplessly, is one of the top contenders for best shot of the day.

The shopping street has plenty of foot traffic. But Koenji is full of distinctive characters, so a couple in wedding attire doesn’t stand out as much as you’d think. Passersby might say “congratulations” to you — that’s about the level of attention you’ll get.

Night: The Final Stop Was Their Own Room

The day’s route was sento, shopping street, and finally their own home. In a room filled with instruments and a record player, we shot a performance scene and a moment of them facing off in a video game, wrapping up a five-hour shoot.

You might wonder if there’s any point shooting at home. But looking back ten years from now, what feels most nostalgic often isn’t a photo from some tourist spot — it’s a photo of the room you actually lived in back then.
